Mrs. Kat Culbertson

3-8 Instructional Coach

Kat Culbertson was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Walnut, California, a small-ish town in the San Gabriel Valley where she was an avid swimmer and water polo player. She attended UC San Diego where she was captain of the women’s water polo team and earned her BA in Visual Arts. After spending some time, as an undergrad, volunteering in elementary classrooms and teaching swimming lessons in the summer, Kat decided she wanted to be a teacher and went back to UCSD to receive her teaching credential. She recently graduated from SDSU with her Master of Arts in Teaching in Reading and Language Arts and got her Reading and Literacy Added Authorization.

She has spent the last 19 of her 22 years in charter schools and has taught second through sixth grades in California, Texas and Colorado, and led teachers as an instructional coach and principal.

Kat first came to Integrity Charter School in 2005 as a founding sixth grade teacher at the school. She spent the next four years teaching third and fourth grades at ICS. After moving around to Denver, San Diego and Chula Vista, she's so happy to be back “home” supporting teachers and student learning!

Kat recently started hula dancing and in her free time, she like to read dystopian science fiction, go to the beach with her dogs, Slater and Leo, and support her ever-growing fourth grader, Lana, in hula and swimming. When she can, Kat likes to enjoy an occasional movie with her husband, Jake, and eat out with friends.
